Project Context

The Data4 data center campus in Hanau, near Frankfurt, is set to become one of the largest in Europe, with an investment exceeding €1 billion. Located on a 25-hectare former US military base, it will ultimately offer 180 MW of IT power across multiple data center buildings, designed to meet hyperscale and enterprise requirements. The project prioritises sustainability through a 10-hectare photovoltaic park, the use of renewable energy contracts, recycled construction materials, and studies into reusing waste heat for local district or community networks.

The campus will incorporate advanced digital infrastructure, including high-density, carrier-neutral connectivity with diverse fibre routes linking to Frankfurt’s major internet exchanges. Modular, software-defined network architectures will allow rapid scaling and segmentation for different customer profiles. AI-enabled DCIM and monitoring platforms will optimise energy use, cooling performance, and capacity planning, while automated security, access control, and smart incident management systems will support stringent uptime and compliance requirements.
